Working Together
Shared responsibility. Responsibility for managing worldwide economic and social development, as well as threats to international peace and security, must be shared among the nations of the world and should be exercised multilaterally. As the most universal and most representative organization in the world, the United Nations must play the central role.
The Millennium Declaration.
Collaborating between the private and public sectors in Sri Lanka, The National Council for Economic Development (NCED) acts on both national and regional levels. NCED is practicing an institutionalised stakeholder consultative and participatory process in the government policy formation, with the aim of achieving a coherent development plan for the country.

In addition to the above mentioned process, NCED empowers the coordination among the line ministries and relevant government agencies to carry out the MDG targets. Mutually acceptable proposals are formulated and implemented through the Cluster Committees, created to carry out developments in Sri Lanka. The overall impact of these cluster activities has raised the enthusiasm in the Apparel, Tourism, SME sectors as well as the slowly progressing Transport, Skills Development and Public Sector Reforms, creating a suitable environment to help achieve the MDGs.

The challenge faced by the NCED is fast tracking implementation with a view of reducing the gap between high expectations and reality, in turn making the Millennium Development Goals an achievable reality.
