It
is my pleasure to issue a message for the website created
to facilitate the United Nations Declaration of Millennium
Development Goals which means “For while globalization
offers great opportunities, at present its benefits are very
unevenly shared, while its costs are unevenly distributed.”
The Government of Sri Lanka has recognized all sixteen
development goals, out of which nine have been addressed directly
by the ten year horizon development time framework, namely
“Mahinda Chinthanaya”. This program has
recognized regional balanced growth with poverty eradication
within the Island.
The National Council for Economic Development (NCED) is where
the country’s MDG support program implementation is
established to achieve the balanced economic growth with active
and effective participation of the private sector and civil
society, reaching MDG goals ahead of other countries in the
globe.
The NCED/MDG secretariat has evolved freedom, equality, solidarity,
tolerance, respect for nature, and shared responsibility to
be assured in the national development of the country.
This website is developed to reach this noble task of the
country and as Executive Director of the NCED I am proud of
the goals and its objectives. It is my duty to indicate that
this initial website may not be meeting all our aspiration
but we are taking the first step towards a long journey.
I myself am looking forward to see more golden lines in the
future of this web to go far with eye-opening work of the
NCED.
Dr Don S. Jayaweera (Ph.D)
Executive Director and National Programme Director.
